Mike Chalfen

General Partner

Over the past 16 years, Mike has served on 20 boards and made around 35 investments across the technology and media sectors.

Before joining Advent in 2008, he worked at Boston Consulting Group and then spent ten years at Apax (four as a Partner) before going on to make private investments.

His investments included growth buyouts such as Future Publishing (FUT.L) and Ginger Media (sold to SMG.L); growth equity investments in SuSE Linux (sold to NOVL, now Attachmate), Eyretel (sold to WITS, now VRNT), Ubizen (sold to Cybertrust) and King.com; and start-ups such as eDreams.com (sold to TA Associates), QXL.com (sold to Naspers), Tideway Systems (sold to BMC), Prevx (sold to Webroot) and Fizzback (sold to NICE Systems).


Mike invests in enterprise software and mobile, e-commerce and internet service. At Advent, he led the acquisition of The Foundry (sold to Carlyle Group) and managed Advent's investment in Fizzback (sold to NICE Systems).  He serves as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of Worldstores and Ubiquisys.  Privately he is also an investor in and non-Executive Director of Moogsoft and Seal Software, and an angel investor at Houzz.com, DudaMobile, and an unannounced cloud security vendor.

Awarded a “starred” Double First in History at Cambridge University, Mike was later the Choate Fellow at Harvard University.
